Boxing News: ‘Prince’ Charles Martin simply wants revenge on Anthony Joshua, and according to his manager Mike Borao, he is one win away from lining up another world title bout.

Martin fights Luis ‘King Kong’ Ortiz in an IBF eliminator on New Year’s Day in Florida, with a win keeping the former IBF champion in contention with the top heavyweight contenders.

The major motive for the American, however, is to avenge his loss to Joshua, who will attempt to reclaim the IBF, WBA, and WBO titles in a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk next year.

“I believe Usyk will defeat Joshua again, although I am cheering for Joshua,” Martin’s manager Borao told Sky Sports.

“Charles is desperate to fight and knock out Joshua before he retires.” He’s been focused on that single aim since 2016 – it’s what drives him and why he’ll beat Luiz Ortiz.

“Charles is willing to go to any length to become a two-time heavyweight champion, including fighting a second IBF eliminator against one of the world’s most feared heavyweights.”

Martin viciously knocked out Gerald Washington in his last fight, however, he was unable to land fights against Dillian Whyte and Andy Ruiz Jr.

“Charles told me to put him up against Andy Ruiz, the only boxer to KO Joshua,” Borao explained.

“I tried all I could to get into a fight with Andy, but he refused.”

“We also attempted to make the fight against Dillian but were unsuccessful – which is a good thing given his recent withdrawal [from the Otto Wallin fight due to injury].”

Borao also manages Frank Sanchez’s career and advises Robert Helenius, two other highly ranked heavyweights who are on the verge of world title battles in 2022.

The WBA could force Helenius to challenge the winner of Usyk vs. Joshua, but Borao feels confident that Martin will also be given a chance to reclaim the IBF belt.

“Helenius’ manager Markus Sundman has taken a firm and proper stance, in my opinion, that Robert is the WBA mandatory for Usyk,” Borao added.

“As a result, any talk of Martin against Usyk is premature because, first and foremost, he must defeat Ortiz; and, second, I have a strong feeling that Martin will eventually contend for a vacated IBF belt.

“People will realise Charles’ devotion and ambition to win his title after he gets through Ortiz.

“Charles started professionally with me ten years ago, and I have never seen him more dedicated than he is right now.”
