Boxing News: Filip Hrgovic has challenged Luis Ortiz to a battle to determine who will face Oleksandr Usyk for the world title.

On Saturday night, Ortiz, a 42-year-old Cuban fighter, got off the floor twice to knock out former champion ‘Prince’ Charles Martin.

Prior to Ortiz’s devastating reminder of his own threat, the IBF had Martin and Hrgovic ranked No. 1 and No. 2 respectively.

“If Ortiz wants to fight in the final eliminator, he needs to fight Hrgovic,” Hrgovic’s promoters, the Sauerlands, declared.

“Ortiz will freeze from my fists!” Hrgovic said.

“He’ll get a cold shower from my power.”

A final eliminator would determine the mandatory challenger to Usyk’s IBF, WBA, and WBO heavyweight championships, which he is likely to defend against Anthony Joshua in a rematch.

When the IBF orders the contest, Kalle Sauerland is ready to begin negotiations for Hrgovic vs Ortiz.

“We’re waiting for the IBF to send out the letters, and then we’ll talk to Ortiz’s representatives,” Sauerland told Sky Sports.

“They’re well-known to us, and we’ve previously collaborated with them.” That’s something we’ll do in the next few days, as soon as those letters are sent out.

“Of course, there’s always the purse bid situation.” I believe that not only will he [Hrgovic] make a statement by defeating Ortiz, but that the reward will be a shot at the world title, which has always been the goal.

“That’s something Filip will take with both hands, so he’s thrilled, we’re thrilled, and we’re looking forward to putting on a fantastic fight.”

Ortiz has previously competed for the WBC title twice but has been defeated both times by Deontay Wilder.

They are the southpaw’s only two losses in his 37-fight career.

Hrgovic is undefeated in 14 fights and has been frustrated in his search for a final eliminator opponent.
