Boxing News: The rematch between Josh Warrington and Mauricio Lara ended in a technical draw, while Katie Taylor retained her unchallenged world titles with a points victory over Jennifer Han and Conor Benn defeated Adrian Granados by unanimous decision.

After Mauricio Lara suffered a cut over his eye, Josh Warrington was denied a revenge victory, and their rematch ended in a technical tie.

The Leeds featherweight was out for revenge after a ninth-round stoppage loss in February, but his second fight was cut short after a head contact in the second round left him with a terrible wound over his left eye.

During a furious first round at Headingley Rugby League Stadium, a crisp right hand put Lara off balance, but Warrington was caught with a ramrod right in retaliation.

However, in the second round, Warrington wove into range and caught Lara’s scalp with his forehead, opening a gaping gash that prevented the Mexican from returning for the third round following a doctor’s examination.

Both competitors had to settle for a technical draw as the fight was stopped after four rounds.

Katie Taylor regained her uncontested world lightweight belts with a brilliant points victory over Jennifer Han on the Warrington vs Lara programme.

Despite Han’s protests, the Irish star was given a knockdown in the eighth round, and Taylor won by unanimous decision with three scores of 100-89.

Taylor had stepped up her attack in the third round, landing a good right hand, and then disturbed Han in the eighth with a jumbled combination.

In the following round, the Texas fighter was knocked down, though she protested the knockdown, and Han had to survive more vicious flurries from Taylor in the closing rounds.

Conor Benn won a unanimous decision over Adrian Granados earlier in the evening, putting him one step closer to a world welterweight title fight.

Benn’s relentless assault kept Granados on the back foot for the majority of the fight, and he won by unanimous decision with scores of 100-90, 99-91, and 97-93.

Benn’s crisp right hand sliced through Granados’ defences in the second round, and another booming right in the eighth shook the Mexican, but the British challenger had to settle for a one-sided decision victory.
