Boxing News: According to Nico Ali Walsh: “I know the crowd cheered when he punched me, but I honestly didn’t feel anything. I consider myself fortunate to be carrying on my grandfather’s legacy. Everyone who adored my granddad is now keeping an eye on me.”
On Saturday night in Atlanta, Nico Ali Walsh, Muhammad Ali’s grandson, knocked down James Westley II twice to win by knockout once more.
Ali Walsh was knocked out 30 seconds into the third round of his second professional fight, having ended his debut inside the first.
But he ended Saturday’s battle with the same aplomb, with his right hand doing the damage – despite having to endure the first decent shot of his career.
He stung Westley II, who was also in his second fight, with a straight, sharp right within the first round.
Ali Walsh turned up the heat in the second round with the same blow, cracking his opponent down the middle and knocking him to the mat.
He came out for the third round looking for a stoppage and soon struck another straight right hand, pushing Westley II to the ground.
The towel came in to save Westley II from additional punishment, prolonging the grandson of the greatest boxer of all time’s unblemished record.
From ringside, his mother and Ali’s daughter, Rasheda Ali, were visibly moved.
“I know the crowd got enthusiastic when he punched me, but I honestly didn’t feel anything,” Ali Walsh said.
“I consider myself fortunate to be carrying on my grandfather’s legacy.” Everyone who adored my granddad is now keeping an eye on me.
“I’m relieved that this fight went the way it did. There are several things I need to work on.”
