Boxing News: As Natasha Jonas prepares to finally become a world champion, Anthony Joshua has requested that women’s boxing receive the same amount of attention as men’s.

As part of her new partnership with Sky Sports Boxing and BOXXER, Jonas, Joshua’s 2012 Olympic Team GB teammate, hopes to secure a world title opportunity in the coming months.

“Give credit to the female fighters – Ramla Ali, Katie Taylor, Tasha Jonas,” added Joshua, who has won the heavyweight title twice.

“There are so many strong female warriors.”

“Then there’s me, Tyson Fury, Dillian Whyte,” he says. We should all be proud of ourselves!

“We’re all valuable assets.” It makes no difference whether you’re a woman or a man.

“Give folks their dues and credit.”

Jonas has come agonisingly close to becoming a world champion twice, and both times he has lost.

She first fought Terri Harper valiantly as an underdog to a draw in a WBC super-featherweight title fight.

Then, in a rematch with undisputed lightweight champion Taylor, she was narrowly defeated in a rematch from their highly anticipated London 2012 encounter.

In response to Jonas’ bout with Harper, Joshua said: “This fight was said to be a tremendous one for women’s boxing. This was a fantastic fight for boxing in general.”

Ben-Shalom, Jonas’ promoter, said: “She was on the verge of defeating Taylor. She may have beaten Taylor.

“At some time, I’d like to see them fight again. I’m confident they will.

“Tasha has her own ideas about what she wants to do.

“Jonas will compete for a world title in her next bout, if not the fight after that.
