Boxing News: On Saturday night in Las Vegas, Devin Haney put on his greatest performance to date, slickly outclassing Joseph Diaz Jr to retain his WBC lightweight title.

He then verbally promised to face George Kambosos Jr, who dethroned Teofimo Lopez to win the division’s No. 1 last week and was ringside to witness Haney.

Haney out-jabs Diaz Jr in the early stages of his title defence, demonstrating a big speed and skill edge.

Diaz Jr pushed Haney at times and never let him cruise to the finish line, capturing his attention with body blows on occasion.

Every time, however, Haney threw back with more conviction, keeping Diaz Jr at range and putting him in his place.

In the 12th round, Diaz Jr went for broke, but Haney escaped his onslaught.

116-112, 117-111, and 117-111 were the judges’ scores.

On DAZN, Haney informed Kambosos Jr, “We have to get in there and resolve it.”

Kambosos Jr’s response was as follows: “It will be a thrilling battle if we succeed. We can now converse.”

They’re both parts of an exciting lightweight world title fight that still involves the incredible Vasiliy Lomachenko, who fights Richard Commey.

“It’s now my boxing objective. My motivation is to be the undisputed world champion “Lomachenko has issued a warning.

Teofimo Lopez defeated him last year in a fight for the IBF, WBA, WBO, and a version of the WBC titles.

This set up the tantalising potential of four young, undefeated Americans battling it out at the top of the category – Lopez, Haney, Ryan Garcia, and Gervonta Davis, who will face Isaac Cruz on Sunday night.

Lopez, on the other hand, never successfully defended his belts and was stunned by Australia’s Kambosos Jr. a week ago.

Kambosos Jr and Haney are both WBC lightweight champions, however they hold distinct versions of the championship.

On the undercard, Jessica McCaskill regained her undisputed welterweight title by stopping Kandi Wyatt in seven rounds.

Filip Hrgovic’s heavyweight ascension continues with a third-round victory over Emir Ahmatovic, who was floored three times.
