Boxing News: In January, the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBofC) banned all boxing to allow doctors and medical specialists to focus on their work with the NHS in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak.
The decision was made owing to the Covid-19 outbreak, with doctors and medical professionals needing to prioritise their work with the NHS, the Board stated to Sky Sports News on New Year’s Day.
It means Chris Eubank Jr’s bout with Liam Williams, which was supposed to take place on January 29th, will be postponed until at least February.
“Boxing events under the authority of the British Boxing Board of Control will be suspended for the month of January, following a recommendation from the British Boxing Board of Control Medical Panel,” the Board said in a statement.
“Before the expected resumption of boxing in February, the Medical Panel and Stewards will conduct an additional review.”
Fury is ‘overjoyed’ about the Ring Magazine honours
Following his spectacular victory against Deontay Wilder, Tyson Fury is “extremely happy and humbled” after receiving two accolades from The Ring Magazine.
After retaining his WBC title and Ring Magazine belt with a stunning stoppage of Wilder in October, Britain’s heavyweight hero won The Ring Magazine’s ‘Fight of the Year’ and ‘Round of the Year’ accolades.
In Las Vegas, Fury climbed off the mat twice in the fourth round, while Wilder was knocked out in the third, tenth, and eleventh rounds.
When winning the ‘Fight of the Year’ award, Fury said, “I’m totally happy and overwhelmed to be acknowledged by Ring Magazine yet again.”
“That’s more plaques to hang on the wall and more awards to add to the collection.” I’m overjoyed, and I’d want to extend a special thanks to Deontay Wilder, who provided me with a dance partner in order to win this honour.
