Boxing Match: “[Anthony] Joshua is now training, and today we formally triggered the rematch for the Oleksandr Usyk bout, which will take place early next spring,” promoter Eddie Hearn told DAZN on Saturday.
According to Eddie Hearn, Anthony Joshua has activated his clause for a rematch against Oleksandr Usyk in the spring of 2022.
Last month, British heavyweight Joshua lost his IBF, WBA, and WBO belts to Usyk through unanimous decision at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Usyk has already stated his desire to return to his home country of Ukraine for a fight with Joshua.
“Joshua is now training, and today we formally triggered the rematch for the Oleksandr Usyk fight, which will take place early next spring,” Hearn said on DAZN on Saturday.
“So he’s back in the game, and we’re expecting him to become a three-time heavyweight champion.”
Earlier this year, Joshua appeared to be poised for a unification fight with local rival Tyson Fury, but an arbitration tribunal determined that he had to fight Deontay Wilder again.
On Sunday morning, their trilogy bout will take place in Las Vegas.
“I’ve studied the fight, analysed my preparations, and identified my flaws,” Joshua stated after losing his championships against Usyk. I’ve had my lesson.
“Don’t be concerned about me. “I have a strong spirit!”
Joshua, 31, earlier avenged a shocking loss to Andy Ruiz Jr in December 2019 with a unanimous points victory in Saudi Arabia, the British fighter’s only other setback of his career.
