Boxing Match: “It’s straight back into the fire, and he’ll want to go straight back into that rematch,” promoter Eddie Hearn says of Anthony Joshua’s desire for a rematch with Oleksandr Usyk following a points loss at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.
According to promoter Eddie Hearn, Anthony Joshua ‘will seek’ an immediate rematch with Oleksandr Usyk after losing his world heavyweight championships in a unanimous decision loss.
Usyk snatched Joshua’s WBA, IBF, and WBO championships with a superb points victory at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday night.
However, the British fighter can activate a rematch clause, resulting in a rematch with the Ukrainian.
“It’s going to be incredibly difficult because Usyk’s confidence will be sky-high, but when you get to the level of Anthony Joshua, as we saw after the Ruiz defeat, there’s no 10-round comeback bouts and warm-ups,” promoter Eddie Hearn told.
“It’s straight back into the fire, and he’ll want to get back into that rematch.” He’ll be an underdog in the rematch later tonight, but that’s what he does.”
During the last round of the bout, Joshua sustained a swelling beneath his right eye, and Usyk nearly forced a halt.
He returned to the dressing room right away to seek medical assistance.
“It was a hard fight, a gruelling fight,” Hearn remarked.
“He’s not quite speaking the way you’d expect him to right now. Devastated. He’s already bringing up training.
“They’d like to examine the eye socket. He thinks it’s alright, but it’s a crushing defeat.
“Oleksandr Usyk deserves to be congratulated. What a warrior. He gave a fantastic performance tonight, and the better man triumphed.”
