Boxing: According to promoter Ben-Shalom, Hughie Fury wants an explosive fight with Chris Arreola to keep himself in contention with the world’s premier heavyweights.

Last month, Fury broke Christian Hammer’s dogged resistance, forcing the German to retire on his stool, and the 27-year-old contender has now welcomed a battle against Arreola.

The Californian demonstrated his threat in a tough points loss to Andy Ruiz Jr in May, but Fury still wants a hazardous clash with the three-time world championship challenger.

“[His father and trainer] Peter Fury wants Arreola, and we think that would be a terrific match,” BOXXER promoter Shalom told Sky Sports.

“Arreola performed admirably against Andy Ruiz Jr.

“After a great win over Hammer, we believe it’s time for Hughie to move up.

“He’s in a good mood, and he’s prepared.

“There are a number of possible opponents floating around.

“He’ll be seen in huge contests. He’ll fight an American next, and we’re rooting for Arreola.”

Arreola has previously demonstrated his fighting abilities against Vitali Klitschko and Deontay Wilder, and he has recently been connected with a fight against Dillian Whyte.

“We’ll absolutely acquire someone of great level,” Peter Fury told Sky Sports last week.

The WBA has Hughie ranked fourth, and Shalom is eager to secure a bout against a big-name opponent in 2022.

“We’re looking at Derek Chisora for Hughie next year,” Shalom stated.

“Hughie is only among the top ten in the world.”

“He’s ready to fight any of them – he’d fight Dillian Whyte, he’d fight Chisora, he’d fight Joseph Parker again.” He believes he has Parker’s phone number.”

Fury’s effort to capture a WBO belt in 2017 ended in a contentious points loss against Joseph Parker.

Parker defeated Derek Chisora on points in their first bout in May, and the New Zealander will meet him again in December.
