Boxing Fight: After Tony Yoka accepted a final eliminator against Filip Hrgovic, Oleksandr Usyk may soon find his next IBF mandatory challenger.

Hrgovic has had a difficult time finding a heavyweight opponent, with bouts against Luis Ortiz and Joseph Parker falling through, but Yoka accepted the IBF invitation just three days before the deadline.

Tony Yoka has formally accepted the challenge to fight Filip Hrgovic in a final IBF Final Eliminator for the heavyweight world championship in writing, according to Nisse Sauerland, who represents Hrgovic.

“‘El Animal’s dance partner has been found.”

Hrgovic and Yoka, both unbeaten heavyweights, have met in the amateur competition previously, most notably in the super-heavyweight semi-finals at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

Yoka won the battle and went on to win the gold medal, with Hrgovic collecting bronze, but their next fight will be for the chance to meet IBF, WBO, and WBA champion Usyk.

For the time being, Usyk is poised to defend his titles against Anthony Joshua in a rematch later this year.

From his 14 victories, Hrgovic, a highly ranked Croat, has 12 knockouts, while Yoka has nine from 11.

Hrgovic’s arduous search has come to an end

Hrgovic’s search for a fight comes to an end with Yoka’s acceptance of the final eliminator.

Due to a hand injury received in his victory against Charles Martin on January 1, Ortiz, 42, was unable to accept a bout with Hrgovic.

Parker was the next contender ordered by the IBF after impressing in a one-sided win over Derek Chisora last month.

However, Parker’s manager, David Higgins, told Sky Sports that his client is suffering from an elbow ailment.

“Hrgovic has an economic dilemma,” Higgins continued.

“[Hrgovic] has a high rating but no fan base, so the money on offer for someone like Parker is ludicrous.”

If Yoka, who is ranked number 5 by the IBF, had not agreed, Britain’s Joe Joyce, who was defeated by Yoka in 2016 Olympic final, would have been the next man in line to fight Hrgovic.
