Boxing Fight: Oleksandr Usyk’s’sensational’ skills can instil ‘doubts’ in opponents’ minds, according to Isaac Chamberlain, who sparred with the Ukrainian star several times.

After capturing the WBA, IBF, and WBO heavyweight belts with a flawless points victory over Anthony Joshua in September, Usyk is awaiting word on his next bout.

After impressing the immensely skilled southpaw, Chamberlain was twice summoned to training camps to spar with Usyk, and he was well aware of the threat posed to Joshua.

“To tell you the truth, I wasn’t surprised at all.” Chamberlain told Sky Sports, “I know how amazing he is.”

“He’s a fantastic boxer.” With him, I’ve been to two camps.

“It’s the inconspicuous things he does.”

“The way he puts up assaults, always feinting, always leading with the lead hand.” He’s relying heavily on his boxing brain. He’s exceptional at what he does.

“Against him, I did exceptionally well. They sang my praises and stated that I would undoubtedly return.

“I used to ask Usyk for guidance all the time after sparring, but as I got better at sparring, he stopped offering me advice.”

Before stepping up a category in pursuit of even more belts, Usyk assisted with preparations for world cruiserweight title fights against Mairis Briedis and Marco Huck.

After rival champion Tyson Fury was compelled to undertake a mandatory WBC championship defence against Dillian Whyte, Usyk is slated to fight Joshua again right away.

“He would try to punish me with me. Fortunately, I was lightning fast “Chamberlain stated.

“With his approach, he’s quite astute. He excels at all he does. He knows how to play the game properly.

“Of course, if you keep getting countered, you’ll have doubts like, ‘If I throw something else, I’ll get countered again.’

“Because boxing didn’t work the first time, he [Joshua] will have to stick it on him this time.”

Chamberlain battles Dilan Prasovic for the vacant IBF international cruiserweight gold at Crystal Palace on Friday.

The south Londoner is hoping that a win will drive him up the rankings and into a fight with IBF champion Briedis.

“That’s the plan,” Chamberlain explained. “He has [belts] from the IBF and Ring Magazine.” I’m going for No. 1 right away.

“He’s getting on in years, but he’s the best of them all, so I’d like to pit myself against the best in the world.” That’s the direction we’re heading.

“He’s a come-forward fighter with planned aggression, and I believe that if I keep going and practising hard, and we use the appropriate strategies, I can surely beat him.”
