Boxing Fight: In a heated first meeting, Anthony Joshua and Oleksandr Usyk locked horns to set up their world heavyweight championship fight.

For his stare-down with Joshua, the enigmatic Usyk arrived at Thursday’s news conference dressed as The Joker from Batman.

On Saturday night, the IBF, WBA, and WBO championships will be on the line at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

When Oleksandr Usyk told Sky Sports, “I think, at initially, it would be chess,” he gave a huge signal about his strategy.

When asked if he had a size and power disadvantage, Usyk responded, “I don’t think so.” “There is a lot of talking going on. They either tell the truth or they don’t. It’s all bluster.

“On Saturday, we’ll see what happens.

“It doesn’t matter how large or small someone is when it comes to power. It’s a part of your soul.

“David Haye was three times the size of Nikolai Valuev, demonstrating that size doesn’t matter.”

Joshua and Usyk exchanged respectful fist bumps before parting with an aggressive handshake after staring each other down during a head-to-head.

“These are the happiest days of my life,” Joshua expressed his happiness.

“For anyone, I’m not an easy fight.” Fighting is something I enjoy doing.

“I’m sure there’s a reason I’m here.” It was a quick process. “I’m sure there’s a reason.” If you told me I was going to fight King Kong, I’d go for it.”

Alexander Krass, Usyk’s promoter, commended Joshua for “daring to embrace the toughest challenge of his career.”

Joshua’s trainer, Rob McCracken, responded, “Anthony will fight anyone available, he always has.”

“I wasn’t on the amateur scene long enough to know about Oleksandr,” Joshua continued. However, I conduct extensive research and adore the Ukrainian style and people.

“I had the pleasure of meeting Wladimir Klitschko, a wonderful champion.”

He also compared Usyk’s trainer Anatoly Lomachenko, the father of Vasiliy Lomachenko, to his own trainer McCracken.

While Joshua spoke, Usyk scribbled notes, then burst out laughing at the first question, before declaring, “I and Anthony will create another stride in history, something that later people will talk about and remember.”

If Joshua survives his latest defence, he hopes to face WBC champion Tyson Fury and establish an absolute champion.

Usyk is attempting to become only the third boxer in history to win world titles at cruiserweight and heavyweight, following Evander Holyfield and David Haye.
