Boxing Fight: The British Boxing Board of Control has put pressure on the Welsh government to set a date for Chris Eubank Jr against Liam Williams.
The all-British grudge battle is expected to take place on Saturday, February 5 in Cardiff, although the date has yet to be confirmed due to Welsh government Covid limitations.
Eubank Jr and Williams were scheduled to fight a week earlier, on January 29, but the British Boxing Board of Control halted all boxing for the month to let doctors and medical specialists to focus on their work with the NHS during the pandemic.
“It is intended that the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff will hold a boxing event on Saturday February 5, 2022,” the BBBofC has written to the Welsh parliament.
“This is a huge event for boxing in Wales, and it requires fans to make it a success.”
“The British Boxing Board of Control fully understands the challenges the Welsh government is facing in regards to the current pandemic situation; but, the uncertainty surrounding an event scheduled for February 5, 2022, is making planning a major athletic event in Wales difficult.”
“As you are aware, the history of boxing in Wales is rich with great Welsh boxers, and owing to the current conditions, important boxing events have been cancelled in the last two years.”
“Although we completely understand the Welsh government’s position, we hope you will be able to explain if a boxing event with a full house can take place on February 5, 2022 at the Motorpoint Arena.” If this is not the case, Mr. Ben Shalom, the promoter, will have to find another site in England.”
Williams is from Cardiff, and he intends to give Eubank Jr a nasty greeting for their middleweight bout.
“I would not use the word respect to describe my views toward Liam,” Eubank Jr earlier stated.
“This is a genuine domestic rivalry, a grudge match.” It’s a private matter. He’s taken it upon himself to make it personal.”
“We’re not each other’s sort of person,” Williams responded.
“I don’t have a lot of respect for him as a person.” I don’t agree with how he conducts himself.
“He’s not the type of guy I’m looking for.” He’s not the type of person I’d want to hang out with.
“I’ve said a few things to him on the internet.” “Things I believe in.”
