Boxing Court: At the weigh-in for a key lightweight bout in New York, Vasiliy Lomachenko let out a giggle as he went head to head with dangerous puncher Richard Commey.

Prior to their bout at Madison Square Garde on Sunday, the Ukrainian star weighed in at 134.4 pounds, while Commey weighed in at 134.2 pounds.

During the fight with Commey, a knockout specialist who is being treated with caution by the three-weight world king, Lomachenko broke the tension with a joke.

“He has a lot of power, reach, and experience,” Lomachenko told Sky Sports. “For me, it will be a really interesting battle for spectators.”

“During the fight, you must be constantly focused on your strategy as well as your speed and responsiveness.”

Bob Arum, the promoter for Top Rank, expects that Lomachenko’s victory will make him a mandatory opponent for newly minted unified champion George Kambosos Jr.

“With the WBC and the WBO, Loma is No. 1,” Arum told Sky Sports.

“Kambosos will fight Lomachenko in Australia if he makes a voluntary defence.

“In Australia, I promoted fights. It’s an excellent location for brawls. They have a sizable fan base that would warmly welcome Lomachenko.

“I am optimistic that Loma will be back fighting for titles by the end of next year.”

On the undercard, Jared Anderson has a chance to cement his status as one of the most exciting heavyweight contenders in the world.

Anderson takes on Oleksandr Teslenko of Ukraine, who has knocked out all ten of his opponents.

Nico Ali Walsh fights Reyes Sanchez in a rematch, following in the footsteps of his grandpa Muhammad Ali by fighting in the storied New York City stadium.
