Boxing Championship: Taylor defended his championships in February with a contentious points victory over Jack Catterall in Glasgow.
Josh Taylor’s WBA super-lightweight title has been removed, the governing organisation stated on Saturday after the Scottish fighter claimed he had planned to vacate the crown.
Taylor’s most recent defence was in February when he was handed a disputed points win in Glasgow against Jack Catterall.
The WBA had ordered a mandatory fight between Taylor, 31, and Dominican Republic’s first-ranked contender Alberto Puello.
However, the governing body stated that “because of the lack of response from Taylor’s staff,” the Scottish boxer’s title was stripped.
A statement from the organisation read: “The World Boxing Association (WBA) championships committee, in accordance with the organisation’s rules, has decided that the super lightweight title, which was held by the Scottish Josh Taylor, is vacant as of May 13.”
