Promoter Andrey Ryabinskiy says Alexander Povetkin was upset about his knockout loss against Dillian Whyte but hasn’t made up his mind on retirement yet. The bout was stopped in the fourth round with Whyte avenging his loss against Povetkin at the “Rumble on the Rock” in Gibraltar last year. Povetkin needed a win to stay on course for a world heavyweight title fight following his unsuccessful attempt against Anthony Joshua in 2018.
“Yes, we’ve talked right after the fight,” Ryabinskiy said. “Sasha, of course, is upset that he couldn’t beat Dillian. But it’s a sport, you need to be prepared for any outcome.”
Povetkin had previously knocked out Whyte in their last fight producing one of the most dramatic comeback victories seen in the sport and Ryabinskiy believes Povetkin does not need to achieve anything more in the sport.
“In my opinion, now is the best time to end his career,” he said. “Sasha has a 1-1 score with one of the best heavyweights in the world. I will try to persuade Sasha, but it’s his decision to make. We will support him in any case.”
