Boxing News: Devin Haney will rematch against Australian George Kambosos

Boxing News: On October 16, the undisputed lightweight world champion Devin Haney will rematch the Australian George Kambosos Jr. at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena.

To add the WBA, IBF, WBO, and The Ring titles to the WBC strap he already wore and become the first undisputed champion at the weight since the advent of the four-belt era, Haney defeated Kambosos Jr. in June by unanimous decision.

The 23-year-old American easily won the first fight in a lopsided fashion, but he said he anticipated Kambosos Jr. to put up a more difficult battle in the rematch.

“I know George is going to come to fight, he’s going to give his all, even more than he did the first time,” Haney, who boasts a 28-0 record, told a news conference.

“It’ll make for me to be able to showcase my skills even more, and it’ll be better this time around.”

Kambosos Jr. said he would put up his gloves if he lost the rematch after suffering his first loss in 21 fights to Haney.

“I’m 29, this is done or die for me now,” Kambosos Jr said. “You will not see me – if I don’t overcome this fight – back in Australia fighting, you know, domestic guys. That’s not me.

“Everything I have, I’ll be putting into that ring and into my training, and God willing, I will be victorious.”
The first match between the two was held in Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium in front of 41,129 spectators; however, the rematch will take place at the considerably smaller Rod Laver Arena, which has a capacity of 14,820.
