Kevin Durant made a triumphant return from a long injury lay off in the Net’s 139-111 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. The former two-time MVP was cheered on by a small crowd of spectators. Durant strained his left hamstring in mid-February but didn’t show any rustiness. He shot 5 for 5 from the field totalling 17 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
“I expected to come out here and play the way I played,” Durant said after Wednesday’s game. “I wasn’t trying to ease into the game.”
Coach Steve Nash revealed that he brought on Kevin Durant off the bench so he could control his minutes according to the score. His last two home games remain the only two games where he has played as a reserve. Durant was unable to start on February 5 after the NBA reviewed an inconclusive coronavirus test result of someone Durant had interacted with that afternoon.
