Basketball News: The Boston Celtics and Miami Heat are both suffering the effects of a gruelling series, with Game 4 readiness hanging in the balance.

Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro, Kyle Lowry, Max Strus, Gabe Vincent, and PJ Tucker are all labelled as ‘questionable’ for the Heat heading into Monday’s matchup at TD Garden. Marcus Smart and Robert Williams III of the Celtics are in the same boat.

Butler, a six-time All-Star, sat out the second half of Miami’s 109-103 victory in Game 3 due to swelling in his right knee. A groyne issue also kept Herro out of the final eight minutes of the fourth quarter.

With injuries to Jayson Tatum (stinger) and Marcus Smart (sprained ankle) late in Saturday’s game, the Celtics have gone from having a chance to seize control of the series to now having to avoid losing back-to-back games for the first time in two months.

In addition to Tatum and Smart, Williams III, the centre, missed Game 3 due to swelling in his surgically repaired left knee.

Ime Udoka, Celtics coach, said the trainer’s table was busy on Saturday, as expected.

“Marcus’s ankle has swelled. I sprained my ankle really badly. He’ll feel it a little more today because he finished the game “On Sunday, Udoka stated.

“Getting worked on and getting treatment. See how he feels tomorrow. Jayson is fine. It’s a stinger that went away pretty quickly. And then Rob has improved. Feels better than he did yesterday. It’s the day today. We’ll test it out tomorrow and see how he feels.”

After going down with 5:18 remaining in Game 3 at TD Garden, Tatum (nerve impingement) is expected to play in Game 4. As Miami rushed back up the court, the 24-year-old turned the ball over in traffic and tumbled to the ground. When the Celtics got the ball back, he stayed down and went directly to the locker room when play was stopped.

“My neck got caught in a weird position,” Tatum said. “I went down and felt some pain and discomfort in my neck and down my arm, and then went to the back, got it checked on, and started to gain some feeling back and got it checked by the doctors and ran some tests and decided to give it a go.”

He returned to a rousing reception from the home crowd, but he was largely unsuccessful the rest of the way, committing a foul and then turning the ball over for the sixth time in the game. He finished with 10 points, six rebounds, and four assists on three of 14 shooting.
