Connecticut hasn’t had a winning streak this long since winning 12 straight games in 2006.

Jones’ previous high of 31 points was set in an 85-64 victory over the New York Liberty in June, and she now leads the WNBA in double-doubles. Brionna Jones led the Sun with 22 points, 10 rebounds, and four assists.

Connecticut (21-6) has moved one-and-a-half games clear of the Las Vegas Aces at the top of the WNBA rankings, thanks to Briann January’s nine points. They have now swept Washington in the three-game season series.

The Mystics were led by Shatori Walker-Kimbrough (17 points), Ariel Atkins (16 points), and Myisha Hines-Allen (16 points). Washington (10-16) had 12 assists from Natasha Cloud, who has lost 10 of her last 13 games.

Washington began the game with a percentage point deficit to the New York Liberty in the race for the eighth and final playoff spot in the league.

Chicago Sky 83 – 103 Phoenix Mercury

The host Phoenix Mercury defeated the Chicago Sky 103-83, with Kia Nurse scoring a game-high 21 points and Skylar Diggins-Smith contributing 20 points and 10 assists.

Brittney Griner scored 18 points in her return from a one-game absence due to a sprained ankle, Diana Taurasi had 17 points, and Shey Peddy had 11 points for the Mercury (16-10), who shot 51.9 per cent on 3-pointers and improved to 7-7 at home.

For the second game this season, Phoenix has surpassed 100 points, following up on a dominant 106-79 win over the New York Liberty last week.

New York Liberty 66 – 74 Minnesota Lynx

The Minnesota Lynx won their third straight game, 74-66, over the visiting New York Liberty, thanks to Kayla McBride’s 25 points and four crucial free throws in the final seconds. Napheesa Collier added 21 points and 14 rebounds.

McBride sank a pair of free throws with 21.7 seconds left and two more with 14.3 seconds left to put Minnesota (16-9) up 68-66. The Lynx won for the 11th time in 13 games despite missing star Sylvia Fowles (shoulder) and fellow starter Layshia Clarendon (lower leg) — and losing forward Damiris Dantas early in the third quarter with an apparent injury.

Betnijah Laney and Sabrina Ionescu each scored 17 points for the Liberty (11-17), who have lost five straight games and are a percentage point ahead of Washington for the final playoff berth.

Los Angeles Sparks 72 – 74 Indiana Fever

The Indiana Fever rallied to defeat the Los Angeles Sparks 74-72 in Indianapolis, with Kelsey Mitchell scoring a game-high 25 points. Teaira McCowan’s final two points came on a pair of free throws with 15.3 seconds left, capping a 10-0 run that sealed the game.

McCowan also equalled her career-high of 19 rebounds, including eight offensive rebounds. She made 9 of 11 free throws while taking advantage of the Sparks’ sparse frontcourt.

Los Angeles (10-17) was led by Nneka Ogwumike’s 17 points in their fourth straight loss.
