Basketball Court: Rubio has been a key part of the Cavaliers’ comeback this season, but teammate Kevin Love is concerned.

Ricky Rubio of the Cleveland Cavaliers departed Tuesday’s game against the New Orleans Pelicans late in the fourth quarter with a non-contact injury to his left knee.

Rubio was driving down the lane and trying to dodge the defenders when he slipped and went to the ground. He grasped his knee and was helped off the field by teammates without placing any weight on it.

Rubio’s ailment has yet to be determined, according to coach J.B. Bickerstaff.

Bickerstaff stated, “He’s still being evaluated.”

One of Rubio’s closest friends, Cavaliers forward Kevin Love, delivered a grim assessment of what appeared to be a serious injury.

“It’s very difficult for me because I saw how much pain he was in when he fell down,” Love said. “We have such a long history together.” I genuinely care for him.

“All I want to know is that he’ll be okay.” We don’t know what the immediate future holds for him. We’re utterly devastated. He was having a fantastic season.”

Rubio has been a key component of the Cavaliers’ comeback this season, averaging 12.7 points, 3.9 rebounds, 6.5 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.
