The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) announced on Tuesday their decision to discuss Manchester City’s appeal against the two-year ban on appearances in European club competitions.

After it was established that their income from sponsors in the period from 2012 to 2016 was overrated, the European Football Association (UEFA) banned Manchester City from competing in club competitions for the next two years and fined the current English champions 30 million euros.

City immediately appealed after the first-instance decision, rejecting allegations that serious violations of the rules had been committed, which concerned the main sponsor, the Etihad, the state-owned airline of Abu Dhabi.

In November last year, the German magazine Spiegel reported that the owner of Manchester City, Sheikh Mansour, had paid most of the sponsorship money that was claimed to come from the Etihad.

The CAS will discuss this matter from June 8 to 10, reported BBC. The CAS decision in this case should be made before the Champions League draw for next season is made.
