Barcelona player Nelson Semedo shared his wish to return to Benfica.
The 26-year-old is attracting attention from clubs across Europe, but he’d rather go back to a familiar environment.
The right-back has joined Barcelona from the Portuguese club in 2017, but is now set to depart Camp Nou.
Talks to extend its current contract past its 2022 expiry date have recently broken down and Semedo is now on sale this summer.
Meanwhile, Semedo is one of those who could be used to sign Lautaro Martinez from Inter in a deal, so it doesn’t seem like he’s going back to Benfica any time soon. That is not stopping him from expressing his admiration for his old club, though.
“I’d like to return to a time where I could give everything and help the team, not only to earn money like other people,” Semedo told Benfica’s club media.
“It was indescribable,” he said. “Being champions with the club of your heart is a great satisfaction. It’s a dream come true. It was spectacular. [Benfica] gave us good values as players and as men.”
During his time with Benfica, he won two Primeira Liga titles as well as other major trophies.
