Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has stated that the financial consequences of the coronavirus pandemic will likely lead to a “different world”, especially in terms of the current transfer window.

Solskjaer saw his team linked with deals of huge money for a number of stars, including Jack Grealish and Jadon Sancho, but he stated he was unsure how the game will be performing in the face of so much uncertainty.

“We’re still trying to strengthen the team.” Solskjaer told Sky Sports.

“The chaos in the world today, nobody knows how sport and the economy would be so I’m very pleased with the group I’ve received.”

Teams across Europe are bracing for huge financial losses owing to playing games without supporters and, in certain situations, seeing seasons completely cancelled. The summer transfer market is thus shaping up to be much different than in previous years.

Big investment is likely to be curtailed, although transfers of free agents and trade transactions are predicted to acquire popularity while teams seek to boost their teams cheaply.

Despite the endless search for replacements on his team, Solskjaer went on to suggest that he would not actually be unhappy if the likes of Sancho or Grealish were not brought in due to the amount of talent already accessible to him.

“This season, I think Mason [Greenwood], Anthony [Martial] and Marcus [Rashford] were great, scored up to 50 goals between them.” the Norwegian said.

“Marcus got his fracture, even Anthony on path for his best season, and Mason is of course just a special talent with his goal-scoring skill.”

He said about the transfer industry now, “The landscape now is different than when it was two months before. We have to change, evolve, there are teams out there who are suffering financially more than anyone. It’s a modern environment, so I believe that this summer’s transfer market would be completely different than what everyone assumed it will be.”
