NFL Scraps London 2020 Games at Wembley and Tottenham

NFL has cancelled all four London 2020 matches scheduled for Wembley and Tottenham, reports BBC Sport.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said it was “definitely the best decision to ensure the safety of everyone involved in the sport.” while Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy said they “excellently appreciate the NFL’s difficult decision to be made.”

NFL UK managing director Alistair Kirkwood added: “NFL’s London Games have been a big part of the NFL season and the UK sports calendar. But the instability of the new sporting climate and the enormous amount of long-term travel and preparation needed to stage successful London games indicate that this is the wise choice to make.”

The games in London were scheduled for the fall of 2020 although no definite dates had been established. Two games were set for Wembley involving the Jacksonville Jaguars, with two further matches expected to be held at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

They will now be played in the U.S. after organizers determined that owing to the coronavirus pandemic it was difficult to schedule games on a foreign continent. This would be the first time since 2006 that an NFL regular season game hasn’t been held in London.
