Newcastle hoped to end the controversial reign of Mike Ashley at the club by setting up new owners in time for the summer transfer window. These plans of a takeover might be in danger, though.

The Guardian argues that the World Trade Organization (WTO) suspects the Saudi government to be behind beoutQ, a pirate satellite television and streaming service that provides illegal access to sporting activities.

This puts the Saudi authorities in a compromised position. As a consequence, the publication indicates that United’s takeover attempt may now be blocked, with a decision to be delayed by at least a few weeks.

Amnesty International has also asked the Premier League to consider blocking the takeover because of the poor record of human rights in Saudi Arabia.

Next month, the WTO will publish a 130-page report indicating that the West Asian country is behind beoutQ, known to display Premier League and La Liga matches via illegal means.

So, Newcastle’s takeover has stumbled across many delays.
