Manchester City winger Riyadh Mahrez announced that Liverpool had previously expressed an interest in his signature.
Mahrez helped Leicester City win the Premier League in 2016. This garnered a great deal of interest in his contract. However, he finally decided to stay in the King Power Stadium for two more years.
Later, in 2018, he joined Man City. Nevertheless, the Algerian recently indicated that his career would have taken a different direction if Liverpool had not signed Mohamed Salah.
Speaking to beIN Sports on Instagram, Mahrez said:
“Before signing for Manchester City, Liverpool had an interest in me, but as soon as they took Mohamed Salah, it was done.”
The 29-year-old enjoyed a fruitful period at Etihad Stadium, contributing 21 goals and 26 assists from his 81 appearances in all competitions.
