La Liga President Javier Tebas Intends to Resume Season on June 11 at Seville

Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga, aims to start the 2019-20 season with the Seville derby on June 11, a Thursday.

Previous reports indicated that the first match will be played on June 12, exactly three months since the suspension began. Real Betis even said that Sevilla’s home match against their bitter rivals would be the match played first.

While Tebas confirmed the derby as his desired aim, he revealed on Sunday that he hoped to resume a day earlier.

Speaking at the Partidazo show, Tebas said: “There is the possibility that on the 11th of June there will be a match that would be a special match, with a possible tribute to all the deceased.”

Further, he said, “Our idea is to be in a position to confirm this coming week the date for first four matches.”

He intends on setting the game at 22:00 local time due to the hot temperature in the capital of Andalusia:

“I wish we could confirm that date. We want it to be the Seville derby, at 10 in the evening.

“The hours depend on where the game is played and it will always be taken into consideration. The plans are scheduled to be late throughout the week. There’ll be three schedules on weekends.”

Meanwhile, he added: “We’ve got to figure out the rule. We’ve got to look after the health of everybody. We’re trying to define the rules, but obviously they won’t satisfy everyone.

“The publicity problem needs to be seen, though. Everyone wants to be in the crowds, so that’s going to be difficult.”
