Dries Mertens Signs Extended Contract with Napoli

Belgium’s international Dries Mertens seems projected to increase with Napoli and sign an agreement worth € 4 million a year plus bonuses.

Inter, who had offered Mertens a transfer to San Siro, was also linked to Edinson Cavani’s move to Paris Saint-Germain. The contract with Uruguay expires in June and the former Napoli will move forward on a free transfer in the next window.

However, the fans in Naples begged attacker Mertens to remain in San Paolo and to quote the news in Italian newspapers, they seem to have persuaded the 33-year-old Inter target.

Multiple reports in Italy say that Mertens has agreed to sign a new contract with Partenopei. SportMediaset says that it is a two-year deal worth € 4 million a year plus €500,000 in bonuses for the joint all-time leading goal scorer.

President Aurelio De Laurentiis, who yesterday gave Mertens a week to sign a contract or move on to new pastures, has shown his tenacity to keep one of the club’s main members and avoid seeing him when he travels to Milan next season.

The Azzurri are reportedly already preparing the documents to tie the Belgian to the club until June 2022 and to pay him a fee of € 2.5 million.
