After Virat Kohli’s wicket at Trent Bridge, James Anderson explains why he was so enthusiastic

There are few greater Test cricket matches than Virat Kohli batting against James Anderson. While one is a world-class batter at the peak of his game, the other, at the age of 39, still appears to be going strong. The two have a bit of history against one other, and on Day 2 of the present Test match between India and England at Trent Bridge, Nottingham, a new chapter in that rivalry began. This time, it was Jimmy Anderson, the ageless wonder, who stole the show by dismissing Kohli on the first ball.

James Anderson downplayed the rivalry later in the day, telling the press that it all comes down to individual strengths and doing what’s best for the team. In a team sport like cricket, he noted, individual battles must be kept to a minimum.

“I try not to think about it too much” (on his battle with Virat Kohli). I believe it is critical that we as bowlers focus on our strengths. I was attempting to acquire an advantage by swinging the ball away from the two openers. After that, I tried to bowl a little straighter and attack the stumps.”You have to keep interpersonal battles out of it,” Anderson remarked at the news conference in response to a question from ANI.

He couldn’t decide which of the two, Cheteshwar Pujara or Virat Kohli, was the better wicket.

“Yeah, it’s unfair to choose between them since they’re both excellent batsmen. So getting them both out is fantastic, and I am overjoyed. I’m not sure,” he remarked before giving the reason for his ecstatic reaction after taking Kohli’s wicket.

“Present was some emotion there, as well as excitement after he was released. But, yes, it was a big wicket, and the emotion poured out when I bowled the ball just where I wanted it and he nicks it. The emotion came out because the squad needed to get back into the game and bring their best player out “Rishabh Pant is a terrific player, and he has the potential to take the game away from him, he remarked.
